A Bridge 'Not Too Far'

The town in which we're staying, Pescara, has two very unusual bridges. The one, as seen above is the Ponte del Mare, "Bridge of the Sea." It's located right at the south end of the promenade that follows the shore line and at the west end of the river that transverses the city. Our Airbnb is in the north part of the city, so when we decided to ride our bikes to the bridge, it turned out to be 3.4 km (2.11 miles). The bikes that came with the Airbnb are what you'd probably call "vintage" to be nice. And, as a couple of vintage folks such as ourselves, riding on vintage bikes made for an interesting journey.

But we finally made it to the Ponte del Mare bridge and what do you know? Its only for pedestrians and bikes. No car traffic at all. The bridge, which was completed in 2009 has a really cool slightly inclined central pylon that rises above the walkways.

Well, we made it across, with a few stops because the walkway is inclined. When we got to the other side they luckily had a very nice little coffee/beer shop. Too late in the morning for coffee, so we had ourselves a nice beer before heading back.

The ride back was uneventful and we got to see the first of two interesting bridges, the first of which turned out to be, "not too far!"

Later.

Go Eagles and Phillies (6 - 3 against St. Louis).

Replying to

I knew you were kidding, I was gonna add a smiley face, but forgot. That pasta in the picture wasn’t as good as the spaghetti with olive oil and garlic I made for dinner last night. We still smell like garlic. 😋.
